The N.J. Transit strike could be a “disaster” for Knicks‘, Yankees’ and Mets’ fans from New Jersey.
With a walkout by engineers late Thursday night, all NJ Transit commuter train service is now suspended. As part of the strike, NJ Transit is also cancelling any non-essential road work and construction. This is the first NJ Transit strike in more than 40 years.
“There’s going to be a lot of Knicks’ fans who won’t be able to get to the game tonight, not by the rails anyway,” MSNBC’s Jonathan Lemire said on air. “This is going to be a significant deal….This is going to be a disaster if it does continue.”
The same can be said of Yankees’ and Mets’ fans headed to Yankee Stadium for the first game of the Subway Series — the first appearance by Juan Soto at the Stadium as a Met.
NJ transit, of course, comes into Penn Station in Manhattan, which sits right below Madison Square Garden, site of Friday night’s Game 6 between the Knicks and Boston Celtics.
From Penn Station, fans can take subways to Yankee Stadium.
Travis Pettiford, the father of Auburn star Tahaad Pettiford, is a Jersey City native who hopes to attend Game 6 of Celtics-Knicks, but said his trip will be made harder by the strike.
Asked how he would get there, he said via text, “Uber.”
“First I gotta find a ticket,” he added.
As of Friday morning, the lowest price we could find on tickets for Game 6 was $662 including fees on Vivid Seats.
