Sometimes, all a man needs is a ride that purrs and the open road. That’s why we’re stoked for Duster, a new action/neo-Western crime drama—with a killer vintage ride at the center of it—from J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan. Set to rev up our screens starting May 15 on HBO Max (yes, that’s its legal name again), Duster is kicking off summer streaming in style.
In case you missed our interview with Abrams and Morgan, Duster stars Rachel Hilson (Love, Victor) as an ambitious FBI rookie in the 1970s who teams up with a crime lord’s getaway driver, played by Josh Holloway (Lost). And his wheels of choice? A red Plymouth Duster. “Duster is about a clash of opposites,” co-creator and co-producer LaToya Morgan told us last month. “It’s about people from opposite worlds that come together under crazy circumstances, and are forced to work together. We watch their relationship grow over the course of the [first] season.”
Duster may not look like some of Abrams’s most recent projects—it’s a gritty neo-Western with nary a lightsaber in sight. But the show has attitude, and tons of it. The series is intentionally designed as a throwback to the good ol’ days of TV, when shows like The Dukes of Hazzard, The Fall Guy, and Knight Rider ruled the airwaves. So, if zombie apocalypses, fire-breathing dragons, and spoiled rich people feel stale, sit shotgun with Duster and enjoy the ride.
If you’ve got Duster on your radar and need to know when to circle your calendar, look no further. Esquire has your Duster release schedule right here.
