You can do a whole lot of things with $100. Which is why, when you can save it, you should.
While doing some routine research on how to get our skin prepped and summer-ready, we stumbled upon the U Beauty The Super Hydrator. The name itself drew us in the same way a sponge draws in water (naturally and effortlessly!), but it was the reviews that really sold us.
“New holy grail unlocked,” said one shopper who was previously a “lifelong La Mer user” — the brand that puts the L in luxury skincare. “It goes on like a light moisturizer but is incredibly healing and rich” and feels “just as moisturizing” but not “sticky or dewy” like its expensive counterpart, they added.

Okay, but what does that have to do with the $100 we were talking about earlier? Well, without making this super complicated, 1 fluid ounce is roughly equal to 1 ounce. So if we’re looking at U Beauty’s 1.7-fluid ounce bottle and most of La Mer’s 2-ounce face creams, they should be fairly similar in price, right? Wrong!
The former will cost you $168, while the designer moisturizer can ring up to a whopping $390, which means they cost about $99 and $195 per ounce, respectively. It’s a lot of math, but TL;DR, the Super Hydrator is about $100 cheaper for almost the same amount of product. (And if the reviewer was using one of La Mer’s more expensive products like its night cream, which is $450, the amount of money saved is even higher!)
We know that even $168 is a steep cost, but it’s one that seems to match the quality: The U Beauty moisturizer is made with five types of hyaluronic acid and a special technology that delivers it to the parts of your skin that need it most, per the brand. Shea butter, argan oil, and other hydrating ingredients also make the product even more true to its name.
It may also soften the look of fine lines and wrinkles and supposedly lasts for 48 hours, so you shouldn’t feel the need to use so much product every single day. Plus, brand ambassador Michelle Monaghan is a fan — she included it in her Essential Edit set alongside three other products.
“This moisturizer is my new favorite because it’s light enough to use for day but doesn’t dry out my skin at night,” wrote one shopper. “It sinks into the skin without ever feeling greasy,” they added.
“The absolute best facial moisturizer for the money. I used to spend [three times] on Augustinus Bader, but The Super Hydrator works just as great for a fraction of the price,” said another person.
