We don’t need a yellow brick road to know this: It’s apparently the year of red shoes.
Maybe it’s because of the popular film version of Broadway’s Wicked and all its connections to The Wizard of Oz, or perhaps, the cheery cherry color just feels right for summer. Either way, celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, Rachel Zegler, and Gigi Hadid have been getting a taste of the trend with red flats, sneakers, loafers, and more.
Red bags were also making headlines in the summer-to-fall season last year, so we should have guessed that shoes would be the next plausible thing celebrities would want to make a little brighter.

Ballet flats already have a hold on celebrities, but mesh pairs are really making the rounds. And because mesh is, well, permeable, you should expect to feel a breeze while wearing this similar lobster-colored style. You also completely eliminate the possibility of stubbed toes and gravel getting lodged under your feet since the shoes will stay securely on your feet thanks to the strap.

But if you live in a walkable city and open sandals sound like a recipe for dirty feet, loafers could be a good alternative. Within weeks of each other, Hadid and Bryce Dallas Howard both walked around in New York City in red pairs like these from Amazon. They’re “so comfortable,” according to one shopper who walked “many miles” in them in Munich and Switzerland. The soles also have raised grips for traction, so they will be easier to walk in than smooth-bottomed pairs.

These candy apple red sneakers also march to the same tune. Snow White’s Rachel Zegler wore this exact style while doing press for the recently released Disney film, and Jennifer Garner, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Laura Dern all own them, too. They also come in a pretty burgundy color, if you want to wear a more subtle shade of red, plus sizes 5 to 11.
