Singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen calls out Trump admin
Bruce Springsteen called out the Trump administration during a recent show in the U.K., urging fans to “fight authoritarianism.”
President Donald Trump returned to the U.S. on Friday after a four-day Middle East trip filled with red carpets and opulence, only to set his sights – and ire – on two music legends and members of the U.S. Supreme Court in a series of angry social media comments to end the week.
In separate Truth Social posts on May 16, the president criticized both Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift, who are not only vocal critics but openly supported his Democratic presidential opponent, Kamala Harris. But later in the day, he slammed the Supreme Court after the majority of justices blocked the Trump administration’s effort to use a 1798 wartime law to deport a group of Venezuelan migrants.
Trump criticized the Supreme Court’s actions, writing on social media, “This is a bad and dangerous day for America!” The aggrieved president added that the ruling will encourage other criminals to enter the country, causing “great harm to our cherished American public.”
Trump calls Springsteen ‘obnoxious’ after comments at Manchester show
Trump’s rant didn’t start with SCOTUS. Earlier, he fired back at Springsteen after the 75-year-old rocker scrutinized the administration at the May 14 concert in Manchester, England.
“In my home, the America I love-the America I’ve written about that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years—is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration,” Springsteen told the British crowd, according to videos shared online. “Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy and the best of our American spirit to rise with us, raise your voices against authoritarianism and let freedom ring. This is ‘Land of Hope and Dreams.’
Despite Trump’s team previously using Springsteen songs at campaign rallies, the president insisted he has “never liked” the “Dancing In The Dark” singer. Not only did Trump call him “overrated,” but he insinuated that there would be consequences when the musician returns to the U.S.
“I see that Highly Overrated Bruce Springsteen goes to a Foreign Country to speak badly about the President of the United States,” he wrote. “Never liked him, never liked his music, or his Radical Left Politics and, importantly, he’s not a talented guy – Just a pushy, obnoxious JERK, who fervently supported Crooked Joe Biden, a mentally incompetent FOOL, and our WORST EVER President, who came close to destroying our Country.”
Swift also catches barbs after endorsing Kamala Harris
Trump also insinuated that Swift is overrated on Truth Social, writing less than an hour before his Springsteen post: “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?'”
In September, the president wrote on social media that “I hate Taylor Swift,” following the Grammy winner’s endorsement of Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
The “You Need To Calm Down” singer endorsed Harris in an Instagram post immediately following the only general election debate between Trump and Harris. The pop star signed off the post, labeling herself a “Childless Cat Lady,” taking a jab at JD Vance’s now-viral comments about people who don’t have children.
